Im Jahre 1949 kam mit der Contax S (S wie Spiegelreflex) die erste Spiegelreflex
der Welt mit fest eingebautem Sucherprisma heraus.

Ihagee ging 1950 noch einen Schritt weiter. Die Exakta II wurde modifiziert, d. h. 
der bisher fest eingebaute Lichtschacht war nunmehr auswechselbar und konnte gegen
einen Prismeneinsatz ausgetauscht werden. Das neue Modell, die Exakta Varex, wurde
in der Ihagee Werbung als Doppelsystemkamera bezeichnet. Wegen der geringen
Stückzahlen bei der Exakta Varex, ebenso wie bei der Vorgängerin

Exakta II, wird sie um ca. 50% höher bewertet, als eine Exakta Varex VX.

S (S like mirror reflex) came along the first mirror reflex of the world with a firmly 
built-in viewfinder prism out with the Contax in 1949. Ihagee still went 1950 a step further.
The Exakta II was modified, i.e. ? the till now firmly built-in air shaft was exchangeable now and could be exchanged against a prism use. The new model, the Exakta Varex, was described as a dual system camera in the Ihagee advertising. Because of the low quantities at the Exakta Varex just like with the predecessor Exakta II it is judged by approx. 50% more highly than an Exakta Varex VX.
