Zur Photokina 1952 in Köln wurde die KW-Praktina zum ersten Mal vorgestellt, 
die offizielle Vorstellung erfolgte aber erst zur Leipziger Frühjahrsmesse 1953. 
Sie war seinerzeit die  erste Kleinbild-Systemspiegelreflexkamera der Welt. 
Durch 7 Zubehörwechselstellen ließ sich die Kamera an nahezu jedes fotografische Problem 
anpassen. Während der gesamten Bauzeit der KW- Praktina wurde immer neues 
Systemzubehör entwickelt, dazu zählt unter anderem vielseitiges optisches und 
mechanisches Zubehör, wie Federmotor, 17m Kassette und Elektromotor mit 
Magnetauslöser, Wechselsucher, austauschbare Einstellscheiben,  Wechselobjektive 
(die Objektivpalette reichte bei der Praktina IIa von 28mm Weitwinkel bis zum 2000mm) 
und ein Stereovorsatz für den entsprechenden Stereosucher. Die Kamera-Werkstätten
Niedersedlitz, später Kamera-Werke Niedersedlitz, hatten mit der Praktina eine sehr 
umfangreich ausgestattete Profi-Spiegelreflexkamera auf dem Markt. Dieses Modell besitzt 
als Standartobjektiv das sechslinsige Jena Pancolar (entspricht dem Jena Flexon), das 
eine hervorragende Lichtstärke und optische Qualität besitzt. Diese Kamera trug den 
Namen Porst reflex; der Originalname Praktina IIa wurde nur  von dem gleichnamigen
Fotoversender aus Nürnberg überklebt. Im Frühjahr 1960 wurde die Praktina-Produktion 
bereits wieder eingestellt, da der spezifische Objektivanschluss für Hersteller und Händler 
einen zusätzlichen Aufwand darstellte und deshalb deutlich teurer war, als das gängige M42-Gewinde, das sich immer mehr durchsetzte. Auch der Markt für teure Profikameras mit Wechselsuchern wurde immer kleiner. So kam es zugunsten der deutlich einfacheren und billigeren Prakticas zum Produktionsende.

In spring 1960 the Praktina production was already discontinued again than the common M42 thread since the specific objective connection for manufacturers and dealers represented an additional effort and therefore was considerably more expensive for it always more gained acceptance. The market for expensive professional camerae with reversal viewfinders also got smaller and smaller. So it came in favor of the considerably simpler and cheaper Prakticas to the production end.
